Frequently Asked Questions About the Pie-Ro Pizza Oven
Does the Pie-Ro make real-wood fired pizza?
Yes, the heat and smoke in the grill comes 100% from real wood pellets burned in the chamber.
Is the Pie-Ro low maintenance?
Yes, regular cleaning is simple and takes only a minute or two after every cook. Simply brush down the stone after each use and vacuum out the pellet dust and debris every 5-8 sessions.
Do I need to clean the inside of my Pie-Ro with soap and water?
No, it’s not necessary. Brush it down, vacuum it out, keep the burn pot clean and you’ll be perfectly fine for years to come.
How do I clean the outside of my Pie-Ro?
Hot water and a rag should take off the majority of your messes, but you can use dish soap to remove grease.
Will the type of hardwood pellets I use affect my pizza?
Definitely, mesquite and hickory will have a distinct smokey flavor and fruit woods will be a bit lighter.
Should I cover my ceramic pizza stone in aluminum foil?
Definitely not, it’s made of ceramic and meant to take direct heat from your pizza oven. Not to mention it will make launching and pulling pizzas cleanly much harder.
Do I need to keep my Pie-Ro covered?
If you want it to last for as long as possible, then yes. While the Pie-Ro is sturdy and durable, the elements will take a toll over time. Wind, rain, rodents, snow, salt, sand and more can all wear on your grill.
What kind of brush should I use to clean my pizza stone?
You’re looking for a pizza stone scouring brush. You can find that here.
How does the Pie-Ro work?
This pizza oven works off electricity, so it needs an outlet to supply power. The pizza oven funnels real wood pellets into a firepot using a rotating auger and motor. Once the pellets hit the firepot an igniter rod sparks a flame and smoke is produced. The electricity powers a fan that blows that smoke and heat upwards which then provides smoky, convection cooking throughout the pizza oven. All of this is taken care of by your Pie-Ro controller, so you don't have to worry about anything but eating!
Can I sear with the Pie-Ro?
Yes, the Pie-Ro has a temp. range of 180-800F. That’s well high enough to sear a steak!
Can I smoke with the Pie-Ro?
Yes, simply turn down the temperature and close the lid for a smoke session!
Do I need to season my Pie-Ro?
Yes, it’s important to make sure your ceramic stone and pizza oven are clean and ready for use. Follow the included instructions with your manual about how to season your Pie-Ro.
Do I have to buy a specific brand of pellets to use with the Pie-Ro?
Nope! Any food grade wood pellet will work in the Pie-Ro. That being said, we do recommend using quality hardwood pellet fuel, as opposed to alder wood (which tends to burn a lot faster). We provide plenty of information on how to find and use quality wood pellets at this link.
How many pizzas can I bake at a time with the Pie-Ro?
It depends on how fast and efficiently you become using the pizza oven. A pizza will bake in less than 2-minutes at 800F, and the 10lbs. hopper will keep the fire going for hours.
How do I bake my pizza evenly?
The Pie-Ro makes it easy with an automatically rotating pizza stone. Simply let the oven do its work and pull your pizza when it’s ready!
How do I launch a pizza?
